The Taronga Zoo (check!) was a quick ferry ride from Circular Quay. I had always loved a zoo as a child, though I, like many others, have conflicted feelings about supporting them today. As a youngster, I was a "FONZ/Friend of the National Zoo” when it was cool (and Fonzie was too). We sold lemonade to raise money to protect lemurs and lorises. Today, I was particularly excited about meeting new Australian furry and scaly friends. Although on my ride home, I realized I forgot to see koalas! Who does that?!

This zoo is huge, divided by area of habitat: Australian Walkabout section has 'roos, wallabies, koalas, and platypuses, which are nocturnal, so I couldn't see them, and emu, which also didn't come out to play. An African safari section with the usual suspects of monkeys, giraffe, zebras, and of course, the Brazilian Tapir. A few awesome rainforests - and who can forget the lions, tigers, bears and elephants, and birds, lizards, and bats. Oh my!
